thoughIcantfathomwhy.

 Themega1)popularHarryPotterbooksdon'ttouchonreligion,buttheydoteachlessonsmanyreligionswouldagreeon:Don'tkillanddon'tlie.Butbeyondthataremoresubtle2)lifelessons.

 1.Bewareofpompous3)peopleNoonewoulddenythattheseries'obviousvillains4)—Voldemort5)andDracoMalfoy6)—aredangerous.Butit'stheconceited7)secondarycharacters—likeGilderoyLockhart8),PercyWeasley9),andCorneliusFudge10)—whooftendojustasmuchdamageasthetruebadguys.Theirself-satisfiedbumbling11)leavesHarryandhisfriendsexposedtotheBasilisk12),animpostorMad-EyeMoody13),andVoldemorthimself.InHarry'sworldasinreallife,seriousevildoers14)arealwaysathreat,butpompouspeoplewreak15)plentyofhavoc16).1.

 2.Staytruetoyournerdy17)friendsFromthemomentHarryfirstmethapless18),round-facedNevillewhowassearchingforhislost

 Thelesson:Don'tdisown24)yourtruefriends,eventheyarenerdy.2.

 3.RealizethatyourfamilyismoreimportantthanyouthinkRon'sbrothersovershadowhim,andhisparentsoftenembarrasshim.Harry'saunt,uncle,andcousinactivelyoppresshim—andhisparentsaredead.Yetforbothofthem,familyholdsthekeytomysteries.Ron'sparentsandbrothersareintheOrderofthePhoenix,protectingRonandHarryinwaystheylearnonlylateinbookfive.Harry'sparentsdiedtosavehim,yetliveoninimportantways.Andhisnasty25)auntisgrudgingly26)partofasecretbloodspellprotectinghimfromVoldemort.Inotherwords,evenwhenwefeeldistantfromourfamilies,theymaybehelpingusinwayswedon'tknow.3.

 4.SpeakyourpainHarry'srefusaltosharehisfearsandfeelings,oraskforhelp,onceseemedlikeafrustratingtic27).Inthepastfewbooks,however,it'sbecomeclearthatit'shistragicflaw.Intheearlybooks,it'sworrisomewhenhedoesn'talertDumbledorethathisscarishurting;ifhedid,DumbledoremightknowwhenVoldemortisplottingsomething.InGobletofFire,it'smaddeningwhenHarrydoesn'ttellNevillethatheneedsawaytosurviveunderwater,sinceNevilleknowsaboutaplantthatmakeshumansgrowgills28).AndinOrderofthePhoenix,it'sheartbreakingtocontemplatethealternatefuturelostwhenHarrydoesn'tuseSirius'mirrortotalktohim—orwarnhimofdanger.29)Ineverycase,Harrywouldhavesavedtime,trouble,andmaybeevenalifeifhehadopeneduptothosewhocareabouthim.Ineachbook,despitetherisingstakes30),hethinksthathe'lljustworrypeopleorthattheywon'tbeabletohelphimanyway.Assuming31)heknowshowpeoplewillreact,andhidingthetruthinamisguidedattempttoprotectthem,isHarry'sgreatfailing.WhenHarrydoestalktohisfriends,theyoftenareabletohelphimorallay32)hisfears.Butwhenhekeepssecrets,Harrymakeshimselfandothersmiserable33)andmorevulnerable34).4.

 Forthosetrulydedicatedtotheirmission,havingfewerresourcesandnobackuporfallbackplancanbeasurprisingblessingasitforcesyoutogetcreativeandforgenewpaths.

 Oh,yeah,thecorncrop?Forthatoneblisteringsummer,the

 Althoughplantingspastmayhavefallenbelowthe50percentexpectation,andtheyprobablywillagaininthefuture,Iamstillsustainedbythecropthatflourishesduringthedrought.

Butallsunshinewithoutshade,allpleasurewithoutpain,isnotlifeatall.Takethelotofthehappiest-itisatangledyarn.Bereavementsandblessings,onefollowinganother,makeussadandblessedbyturns.Evendeathitselfmakeslifemoreloving.Meneclosesttotheirtrueselvesinthesobermomentsoflife,undertheshadowsofsorrowandloss.

 Intheaffairsoflifeorofbusiness,itisnotintellectthattellssomuchascharacter,notbrainssomuchasheart,notgeniussomuchasself-control,patience,anddiscipline,regulatedbyjudgment.

 Ihavealwaysbelievedthatthemanwhohasbeguntolivemoreseriouslywithinbeginstolivemoresimplywithout.Inanageofe____travaganceandwaste,IwishIcouldshowtotheworldhowfewtherealwantsofhumanityare.

 Toregretone'serrorstothepointofnotrepeatingthemistruerepentance.Thereisnothingnobleinbeingsuperiortosomeotherman.Thetruenobilityisinbeingsuperiortoyourpreviousself.

Fame,wealthandknowledgearemerelyworldlypossessionsthatarewithinthereachofanybodystrivingforthem.Butyoure____perienceofandfeelingsaboutlifeareyourownandnottobeshared.Noonecanliveyourlifeoveragainafteryour
